The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Rating: ★★★★ Category: Other What can I say? Watched it on its last day, I immensely enjoyed the show mounted locally by Atlantis Productions. It was totally hilarious, hysterical and delightful. When I watched the show with my best friend, Ruel, at RCBC's Carlos P. Romulo Theater, I never thought that I would enjoy the show so much that we are both planning to watch it again on its repeat run this July. Yes, this musical comedy with music and lyrics by William Finn and a book by Rachel Sheinkin deserved all the Tonys it got during the 2005 Tonys. My only gripe? Some words sung by the actors weren't that audible, making them less understandable. I dunno if it was an audio problem or what... I guess the actors were really trying hard to sound like children (which they were all portraying). Nonetheless, I didn't let that dampen my enjoyment. Kudos to Bobby Garcia, a very able director who made the whole experience of watching this show unforgettable. Though ...

Ang Testigo (The Witness), Part 4

Blog entry date: April 24, 2007. Performance time. We lifted everything up to the Lord. We knew that we needed a miracle from above because there were still kinks (would you believe that the spotlight just arrived on that day?). Aside from the fact that my voice is still hoarse from coughing. I was worried but then, a little prayer will carry us all through the end of this musical. The opening number (Ang Testigo) was great in my opinion. There were no mistakes.  I remember Erwin (our director, or stage manager as he preferred to be called) telling us that the opening and the closing numbers should be as perfect as possible, because the public will definitely remember them.  Well, it was perfectly executed as our proof was the resounding applause. We all did our parts as best as we could.  The play went on smoothly.  Of course, technical hitches were there but it was minimized.  Heck, I was still singing but the spotlight was on Joey, whose lapel ...

Ang Testigo (The Witness), Part 3

Blog entry date: April 17th, 2007 We all found ourselves getting into the thick of rehearsals.   Although there were those who were absent in one rehearsal, the next rehearsal they were there.  I can say that we were all responsible enough to catch up with what we have missed.  And it seemed that we will never gather everyone for a run through.  But at the last week of rehearsals, we all came through.  We poured out everything we’ve got and we lifted everything to the Lord.  He knew our hearts. That last week of rehearsals, I was struck with coughs and colds.  My voice was hoarse and I can barely sing.  Good thing Marie had her handy pepaqua.  It sustained me till after the play was staged.  Of course with a little help from the old reliable salabat.  Was somewhat bothered and worried s ince I had some solo parts. Again, it was amazing how God gave me the voice to sing.  Harold even said that it was nice to hear me...

Ang Testigo (The Witness), Part 2

Blog entry date: April 16, 2007 Funny how things work out.  We found that we lack people to stage Ang Testigo , but God really makes a way.  It’s like He wanted to do this project through the Tagalog Praise & Worship Team that one by one, people began to fill up the P&W team.  Not long ago, we were only 6 vocalists… 3 tenors,1 bass, 1 soprano, 2 altos (excluding Waldy who serves as the P&W leader).  Now we were close to twenty.  A full choir, you might say.  Just enough to stage the musical.  And we begin to realize that God was working through us… Now that we have the people for the musical, all we had to do was gather them all for rehearsals.  And it was no easy task.  Some got sick.  Some had work.  Some people got into other people’s nerves.  Some thought of quitting altogether.  But God is in control.  Always.  After all, He was the one who gathered the cast for the staging of Ang Testigo....

Ang Testigo (The Witness), Part 1

Note: Ang Testigo will be restaged in Baguio this May 16, 2009.  It's been more than two years since the first staging of the musical in GCF Center.  And we're blessed that we're invited to restage it in the launching of GCF Baguio with two performances, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.  I just thought it fitting to "reprint" my blog entries from friendster here in multiply.  -oOo- Blog entry date: April 16th, 2007. An attendance of 900+ in just one performance. From that, a total of 41 people accepted Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.  Who would have thought that a simple idea of staging an evangelical musical would have such a response? Our praise and worship leader, Waldy del Rosario, has been toying with the idea of staging a musical during the regular schedule of the Tagalog service at Greenhills Christian Fellowship  held every Sunday at 3pm. He already had in mind the perfect material … but he had to translate it in Ta...

Frogger

Here comes the rain again.  Rainy season is upon us.  Too early, I say since June is the month that ushers in the rains.  The weather is not what it should be.  Must be the ozone. Anyway, around late afternoon yesterday, dark clouds filled the skies and I thought that I should try to catch a ride home as soon as I left the office, knowing how horrendous trafffic can be in the city when it rains.  I got into an FX and soon the service zoomed its way to Cainta.  Traffic was light, I thought I was gonna be home earlier than 7pm.  I dozed off for almost an hour and woke up to the sound of raindrops.  It’s raining!  Good thing, the FX has left Makati and C-5 (where the traffic builds up).  When I got off the FX, the rain was light enough for me to take another FX home.  I thought that if the rain was just a drizzle, I can walk my way home from the subdivision’s gate.  But then, that didn’t happen.  The rain began to pour lik...
